The Salt Lake City public library, located at salt lake city, Utah. one of the three finalists in the main library and civic plaza competition. the project consisted mainly in giving a new value to the urban context with the civic plaza and the old library. The new library was made by ghathmey siegel and associates architects a New Yorker firm of architects.

If we analyze the circulation elements, basing us in the ching's notes, we find the approach of the building is through the civic plaza comtemplated in the library project, remembering that the new library its conected to the old library through the same plaza. there are two entrances to the building, the first one facing the street, this one has an straight approach directly from the street; the second one is facing the civic plaza, we consider that this is the main facade of the building, therefore this is the main entrance of the building. the last entrance has an oblicual approach regarding the plaza.

If we talk about the external circulation we could say that it is mainly horizontal, the directions of this circulation clearly indicate the way to the building, so we can say the external circulation is very convenient, clear and practical. Now regarding the internal circulation, we can say that is also clear and convenient, because the interior of the building has a main space, wide, open, like an interior patio or a big hall, in which, all the vertical circulation happens, like the stairs and the elevators; of course each floor has its own horizontal circulation, in the form of corridors.
Finally, we can conclude that in the project of the salt lake city public library, the vertical circulation, the horizontal circulation, both internal and external, are very fluid and clear, because you can reach all of your destinations without getting lost in the process. Also we can say that the plaza plays an important role in the circulation and the relationship across the old library, the new one, the plaza and the park. To finish we can say that this kind of use of the circulation elements is desired in both architecture and urban planning.
